Join us on the special Culinary Connections Guided Walk to discover more unexpected and appetising stories in Willesden Jewish Cemetery.
This unique walk explores the lives of influential figures interred at the cemetery who made a significant contribution to the culinary world and related industries.
While John Yudkin warned us of Pure, White and Deadly sugar, the Matlows’ Swizzels Love Hearts have been sending out sweet messages for generations. The stories of trailblazers Bluma Feld and Morris Bloom reveal deep connections between Jewish gastronomy and entrepreneurship. Learn about the pioneering spirit of Lyons, a name that epitomizes the revolutionary tea shops and food manufacturing that transformed British dining. And, of course, the inspirational story of Jack Cohen, whose Tesco legacy is with us around the corner today.
Each stop along this captivating walk is a treasure trove of history, resilience and culinary creativity.
Maximum of 25 participants per guided walk.
The walk begins promptly at the Heritage Centre (the first building by the entrance) and lasts approximately 75 minutes. We encourage visitors to allow extra time before or after the walk to explore the Heritage Centre exhibition and the historic funerary buildings at their own pace.
A limited amount of parking is available on site.
Wheelchairs can be provided upon request.
No dogs, with the exception of guide dogs.
We charge £10 for our guided walks and a concession for Seniors and Students of £8. This charge was introduced to all guided walks to help sustain the new House of Life visitor experience, and the cemetery’s heritage and stories making them accessible to people from all backgrounds.
