Songs Unearthed: Music from Willesden Jewish Cemetery

On the 22nd January 2020 Brent Museum and Archives presented a unique concert alongside the House of Life project at Willesden Jewish Cemetery.

120 people came to the library at Willesden Green to listen to the live tribute to some of the musicians and composers associated with Willesden Jewish Cemetery.

Some of the pieces included were “Consider Yourself” from hit musical “Oliver”, performed by Choir of St. Paul’s Girls’ School, “Sister Susie’s Sewing Shirts for Soldiers” by Herman Darewski, performed by Ben Thapa, and “A Guileless Orphan” from “Billee Taylor” sung by Emma Ellis, who was also heavily involved in organising the event. The concert was hosted by Graham Gouldman, songwriter, musician and founder member of 10cc.

You can find a copy of the full programme here.

“I simply loved last night’s concert! What great entertainment from so many talented people. It was a wonderful repertoire showcase for all the amazing artists, songwriters, composers and musicians buried at Willesden.”

“It was, indeed, a delightful evening, The audience left wanting more.”

We’re grateful for Brent Museum and Archives for hosting such an enjoyable event and we hope to be able to produce similar events in the future.
